Node Dictionary

Used to display a list of nodes with their types and techniques, set and apply filters in the Node Dictionary dialog.

Accessed from:

  • Ribbon: Computational Design > Model > Tools > Node Dictionary
  • Toolbox - Model

The Node Dictionary dialog displays all currently available nodes alphabetically. The (Show Detailed View) tool in the taskbar displays the node in details. You can also use this tool to show close-up view of selected node, using the (Auto Fit Selected Nodes in Graph) tool in the Node Dictionary dialog. To view the currently selected node from the list, select the node from the list while the tool icon is depressed. The highlighted node is displayed in the center of the graph view. A corresponding range block around the selected node appears in the main geometry view. If you select the Rotate View tool in the drawing view, you can view the selected node from different angles in the active model window and see the range block adapt in parallel. You can select more than one node in the dictionary list, add and apply filter clauses and apply to selected nodes.
SettingDescription
Node list Displays all nodes in available in the current model, by default arranged in the order of name.
  • Name — displays name of the node.
  • Type — displays the type of node.
  • Technique — displays the technique used to construct the node.
Note: The Type and Technique columns are seen only when the Show Detail View tool icon is pressed.
A right-click on selected node has two options:
  • Filter on Predecessors Of "NodeName" - sets filter to nodes past to the current node.
  • Filter on Successors Of "NodeName" - sets filter to nodes next to the current node.
Supplies the filter Subject as per selected option: Predecessors of or Successors of, and the Value sets to that of the selected Node Type.
Node Dictionary controls taskbar Several of tool icons are provided to manage the nodes and view the selected ones in the view.
  • (Show Detail View) — when depressed, displays all nodes in current model, tabulated with their Name, Type, and Technique; sorted by names. Clicking in the column heading sorts the list by that column. When released, displays the nodes, listing names only.
  • (Select all listed Nodes) — highlights all the nodes in the Nodes Dictionary list; the selected nodes in view and graph are also highlighted.
  • (Unselect all Nodes) — deselect all or those were selected nodes.
  • (Invert node selection) —reverses the selection of nodes.
  • (Auto Fit Selected Nodes in Graph) -— when depressed, displays the selected node(s) in the center of graph view.
  • (Clear filter) — clears the values set in filter criteria, also removes the additional filter clause rows, if any.
  • (Refresh from filter) — while the filter clause is set and applied, the refresh tool refreshes the resulted nodes as worked on them in the view.
  • (Auto select filtered nodes) — when depressed, displays the node(s) resulted by the current filter clause.
  • (Previous / Next) filter — enabled when a filter clause is applied; when selected, displays the nodes resulted from the respective filter being applied.
Filter settings controls The filter clause(s) can be set using the combination of filter controls to display a desired node or a set of node in the list that satisfy the filter criteria.
  • And/Or — sets logical operator for combining filter clauses; enabled when more than one filter clause row is intended for setting filter criteria.
  • Subject — sets one of the subject from the drop-down values, among: Name, Type Technique or Predecessors/Successors etc.
  • Operator — sets one of the operators provided in the drop-down list: is/ is not / contains / does not contain etc., applicable for Name, Type or technique as subject.
  • Value — sets the value supplied for the given subject.
  • Click here to add filter clause — when pressed, a fresh filter row is added to extend the filter criteria.

A right-click on existing clause rows has the following options:

  • Insert Clause - inserts a fresh filter criteria above the current row.
  • Delete Clauses - removes the selected filter criteria row(s).
  • Group Clauses - combines the selected filter criteria rows; option is enabled when more than one consecutive filter criteria rows were selected.
  • Ungroup Clauses - reverts the grouping of the selected filter criteria rows; option is enabled when all the rows in a group were selected.
